The Buitenveldertse Montessorischool is a primary school in Amsterdam – Buitenveldert, based on the ideas of Maria Montessori. Our school is based in a nice and quiet neighbourhood. We have around 200 students.

Part of the Montessori theory is: follow the child, he will show you what he needs to do, what he needs to develop in himself and what area he needs to be challenged in. 

The prepared environment is an important part of Montessori. Montessori believed that classrooms should be filled with readily available and well organized learning materials.

Montessori teachers have a different role than those of classic educational methods. The teacher is there to be an aid in the child’s independent learning process. The teacher decides which learning materials will be available and how they will be organized. He/she then takes a step back, allows free exploration, and is there to give guidance and a helping hand. Simultaneously, the teacher is an active observer. There is freedom within a clean structure. Our results are good.
