The Buitenveldertse Montessorischool is a primary school in Amsterdam – Buitenveldert, inspired by the philosophy of Maria Montessori. Our school is nestled in a pleasant, quiet neighbourhood and currently serves around 200 students.
A central principle of Montessori education is: follow the child. Children naturally show us what they need to learn, how they need to grow, and where they need to be challenged.
The prepared environment is another cornerstone of the Montessori approach. Classrooms are thoughtfully designed and filled with carefully organised, accessible learning materials that invite exploration and discovery.
The role of a Montessori teacher differs from that of traditional educators. Rather than leading from the front, the teacher acts as a guide in the child's independent learning journey — selecting and organising materials, stepping back to allow free exploration, and offering support when needed. All the while, the teacher remains an attentive observer. There is freedom within a clear and nurturing structure, and our students consistently achieve strong results.
